2018 Continued

Many apologies dear readers (reader?!) for my lack of updates during the 2018 season. A lack of time (one day we will discover a way to make days last 25 hours surely....) has led to letting my updating of the blog slip very badly. The irony is that I thoroughly enjoyed the 2018 season and would have liked to update more regularly so what I will do is post the remaining meetings I went to in 2018 in this post with programme covers and photos.
The 2019 season is around the corner and hopefully the blog will see more consistent updates. Motor Racing is still the greatest sport, yes enthusiasm may wane at times and things might not be what they once were, but we should be grateful it still exists in its many forms. The loss of Rockingham as a venue is a sign that nothing last forever and the sport will continue to change as we head ever further into the 21st century.
So long as the anticipation and excitement is still there to make the sandwiches..to fill the flask...to make sure the umbrella is in the car..to spend the money on fuel and tickets...then watching motor racing is still something I love to do!

2018.......

Silverstone Saturday 7th July

A rare British Grand Prix outing for me to watch Qualifying and see a Formula 2 and GP3 race in the flesh for the first time ever. A swelteringly hot day saw a huge crowd, me nearly getting impaled by a flying brolly and England beating Sweden on the big screen in the quarter finals of the World Cup! The modern day F1 car is a staggering piece of engineering...the sheer cornering speed has to be seen to be believed.

Donington Park Sunday 15th July

A very entertaining MG Car Club meeting that saw an early finish just after 4pm in an altered timetable that was changed in the anticipation of England reaching the World Cup final.....thanks to Croatia the early finish was appreciated by sadly not needed!

Donington Park Sunday 22nd July

A sunny day out with the family in tow for Convoy in the Park. A huge celebration of all things Trucking on the Donington Infield plus 14 races for Trucks, Pickups, Legends and Citroen 2CV's. A 2CV roll in morning qualifying was found most entertaining by my 4 year old nephew, watching his first ever meeting! The big rigs seemed less in number but the spectacle is always good to see.

Brands Hatch Sunday 12th August

THe MSV season ticket saw me head the Brands Hatch GP circuit for the return of DTM to the UK after a few years away. Only 3 races on the day but the DTM cars are a joy to behold and thank the lord that the 3 main German manufacturers Mercedes,BMW and Audi want to show off their wares with these specatcular machines. Eventual DTM champion of 2018, Gary Paffett wining the race on Sunday. A walk around the GP loop was a little disappointing with limited viewing areas all the way around the loop these days.

Silverstone Sunday 19th August

The annual visit of the World Endurance Championship saw a visit to Silverstone for the 6 Hours race. A strange day this with the dominant Toyota Hybrids being disqualified from a 1-2 finish leading to the privateer Rebellion squad taking the "victory" Not the first time I've left this race having watched a disqualified winner and an episode that doesn't help the credibility of the series. The only other ace on the day being the European Formula 3 championship round, a championship eventually won by Mick (son of Michael) Schumacher.

Anglesey Monday 27th August

A bank holiday weekend away on Anglesey that "happened" to coincide with a Thundersport GB meeting at the fabulous Anglesey circuit on the Monday! A rare Motorcycle meeting organised by the best club in the UK. A dry but cool day on the coast saw a very slickly run meeting that had only one red flag.

What a View....!
