Mallory Park Saturday 1st August 2015

For the first time in just over a year, Leicestershire's "other" circuit, Mallory Park, saw a visit by The Spectator. A car meeting at Mallory is a rare event sadly these days with the 2 previous meetings this year in March and May seeing me elsewhere. The fact that it was 376 days since my last visit was the sole reason for making the trip to the first day of a 2-day Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC) organised meeting. I'm not a huge fan of the CSCC's philosophy of 40 minute races for the vast majority of their races. Pit stops in club racing have never provided thrills as usually a good battle for position is nullified by a pit visit. The 40 minute race does however give the entrant more track time for their money plus costs can be shared with an additional driver if required. The humble spectator hasn't shelled out hundreds of pounds to watch though so longer races are understandable though they are certainly not always entertaining! 6 races were on the bi...

It's No Time 2020!!

Following the Winter show season it was time to settle down, wait for March to roll around and go and watch some Motor Racing. Alas this proved to be wishful thinking.... The news of a virus spreading in China initially, although worrying, seemed a far distant problem that wouldn't affect the rest of the world. The Chinese F1 Grand Prix and Formula E race in Sanya, China were cancelled and that seemed to be that.  Having painstakingly compiled a 2020 fixture list for UK racing, the season looked to be shaping up nicely, however it wasn't to be... The spread of the Corona virus became global and reached these shores in February culminating in the Prime Minister announcing a nationwide lockdown of all non-essential activity beginning on March 24th. The governing body, Motorsport UK, announced that all branches of the sport would have permits rescinded with immediate effect. Donington Park Sunday 30th June 2013

The Spectator is back! Apologies to the loyal readers (or reader) of the blog for the lack of updates in June. I usually go through a mid-season lull but it happened a bit earlier this year. If the meeting at Mallory Park on June 23rd had contained more than 5 races I would have gone but it didn't. If it wasn't for the coldest March in the UK for 50 years, it would have been another week without a meeting  as the 750MC fixture that should have taken place on March 23rd was postponed due to the small inconvenience of 3 feet of snow on the circuit. It was swiftly rescheduled for June 30th and thankfully it was a warm, humid day this time around. June 30th was the date for another minor clubbie taking place in the East Midlands at Silverstone but thankfully there were plenty of marshals at Donington who weren't prepared to be showered in exploding tyres....Crowd levels at Donington were slightly lower to that of Silverstone however!
