Silverstone Sunday May 13th 2012

This weekend it was my first visit to the "Home" of British motor racing this year as opposed to the "Heart" with MSVR in charge for what turned out to be 13 races on the day. As World Superbikes were at Donington, I decided to go to Silverstone to avoid the crowds and save some money! MSVR is the racing organisational arm of the mighty Motor Sport Vision empire and they have established themselves as one of the best organisers in the country. They have a strong portfolio of series, most of which were in action today. The self-styled Silverstone Shootout had races for F3Trophy, GT Cup, VAG Trophy, Production BMW's, Monopostos, VW Golf's & Trackday Trophy. The 13th extra race was a Monoposto race that started on Saturday but was red-flagged and accommodated on Sunday.
Racing was on the National circuit which, while not the most challenging of circuits, always provides good racing with heavy braking into Becketts and Brooklands after long straights which provides plenty of passing opportunities. Highlights of the day were the F3 Trophy and VAG Trophy while the only disappointment was a very thin GT Cup grid. As is usual for 2012 the weather was cool to say the least with a strong wind blowing across the former airfield. It did stay dry though! Admission was £10 with an excellent large format programme £3.
